Student
Exchange Program France
After lower secondary education (lasting four years),
students
may opt either for general/technological education in lycées preparing
for the Baccalauréat or the Baccalauréat technologique in three
years.
Schools begin in
early September and finish in June. Classes start at 8:00 am and
end at 5:00 pm everyday except Wednesday and Saturday afternoons
when schools finish early. There is a one and a half hour lunch
break on full days, and there is time reserved for independent study
during the day.
Neither Two Worlds United nor the students
are able to decide in which classes a student is to be enrolled.
The schools decide the placement based on each student's past curricula
and language ability. While most students are placed in grades 10
or 11, the subjects of the 11th year are very difficult. For this
reason, many students are placed in grade 10, no matter what their
age.
Students are given more
homework in France than in the U.S. Your host family will help you
in completing tasks, but you will probably have to study more than
at home.
In a French High School
students will study: French Literature, Physical Education, History,
Mathematics, Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Geography,
English, and Foreign Language (Spanish, German or Italian).
In addition the school
will involve the student in one of the following classes: Foreign
Language, Music, Art, and Business. Student Exchange Program France
