Student
Exchange Program Finland
The
three years of high school are voluntary in Finland. Although, if
a student wishes to enter the university, a high school diploma
is required.
After 9-year-comprehensive school students can choose between upper
secondary school.
Upper secondary school (lukio/gymnasiet) provides general school
leading to the national Matriculation Examination (Ylioppilastutkinto/Studentexamen),
which gives eligibility to all forms of higher education.
Many
schools follow what is referred to as the "classless high school
system", which means that you can finish your studies at your own
pace in 2, 3 or 4 years. This flexible system has proven to be very
efficient. Students may choose to study in either Finnish or Swedish.
Two Worlds United students may be able to take many of the subjects in English,
depending on the school. Typical subjects for your program may include:
Physics, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Biology,
Music, Drawing, Computer Science, Physical Education, Chemistry,
Religion (not a mandatory subject) and Philosophy. Student Exchange
